What to Expect at Life Balance Chiropractic
Know exactly what happens, before you arrive.
Your first visit is a detailed assessment, not an adjustment appointment.
We don’t guess with your health. Your chiropractor will listen to what has been happening, assess how your body is moving and functioning, and take X-rays if clinically indicated.
They will then take time to review your health history, examination findings and any images together before explaining what they found and recommending what happens next.
Understand first. Adjust second.

What would you like to know?
Will I be adjusted at my first visit?
No. We respect and care for your body too much to rush into an adjustment the first time we meet you
Your first visit gives us time to listen to what has been happening, assess how your body is moving and functioning, and take X-rays if clinically needed.
Your chiropractor then brings your health history, examination findings, scans and any X-rays together to build a clear picture of where your body is now, what may have contributed to the problem and how we may be able to help.
This means any recommendations are based on a thorough understanding of you, not assumptions or guesswork.

Your Two-Step, New Client Experience
A clear, thorough process without rushing your care
Your First Visit
1. Talk
We’ll listen to what has been happening, how it is affecting your life and what you would like help with.
2. Movement & Posture Assessment
Your chiropractor will assess how your body is moving, where it may be restricted and how different areas are working together.
3. Nervous System Checks
We’ll carry out relevant tests and scans to understand how your nervous system and body are responding to stress.
4. X-rays if clinically indicated
If X-rays are clinically needed, they can be taken onsite to help you and your chiropractor see what cannot be assessed from the outside. This gives us a clearer picture of your spine and helps ensure any recommendations are based on evidence, not guesswork.
Between Your Visits
5. We review everything
Your chiropractor takes time to bring together your health history, assessment findings, test results and any X-rays. This means your recommendations are based on the complete picture, not a rushed decision.
Second visit
6. Your Report of Findings
Your chiropractor will show you what they found, explain whether they believe they can help and talk you through your options. If care is recommended, you’ll receive a personalised plan and clear costs before deciding whether to continue.
7. Choose Your Next Step
You’ll have the information, recommendations and costs you need to make an informed decision. There is no pressure or obligation to begin care.
Why see chiropractor?
Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession focused on assessing and managing problems involving the spine, joints, muscles and nervous system and how these may affect the way you move, feel and function.
But if you’re considering seeing a chiropractor, you probably want to know more than simply what chiropractic is.
You want to know:
“Why would I see a chiropractor?”
For many people, the reason they start looking for help is because pain or discomfort is beginning to get in the way of their everyday life.
Maybe it’s affecting your sleep, making work more difficult, stopping you from exercising or getting in the way of the things you enjoy doing.
At Life Balance, we don’t just want to know where you’re feeling pain. We want to understand what’s been happening, how it’s affecting you and what you’d like to get back to doing.
The aim is to give you a clearer understanding of what may be going on and whether chiropractic care could be appropriate for you.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
That Means Pain or a Persistant Lifestyle Health Challenge Isn’t An Option
A chiropractic adjustment, also called joint or spinal manipulation, is a hands-on technique in which a chiropractor applies a controlled movement to a specific joint.
You may hear a popping or clicking sound during an adjustment, but this is not always present and does not determine whether the technique has been effective.
Adjustments are only one of the techniques a chiropractor may use. Any technique we recommend will be based on your assessment findings and adapted to your body, needs and comfort.
Before beginning care, we’ll explain what we recommend, why we believe it may be suitable, and any relevant benefits or risks. Nothing happens without your understanding and consent.
Personalised, carefully considered care, with you in control throughout.

We’ll explain why we’re recommending them and confirm the cost before taking them, so there won’t be any unexpected charges.

How is Life Balance Chiropractic different?
What makes Life Balance different isn’t one technique, it’s the time, thought and care we put into understanding you before recommending what happens next.
We don’t simply focus on where you feel pain or rush you into an adjustment. We look at the wider picture: what you’ve been experiencing, how it affects your life, how your body is moving and functioning, and what you would like to get back to doing.
We take time before recommending care
Your chiropractor carefully reviews your history, assessment findings and any X-rays between your first and second visits. This means your recommendations are based on the complete picture, not a rushed decision made during your first appointment.
You’ll understand what we find
At your Report of Findings, we’ll show you what we found and explain it in straightforward language. You’ll understand what we believe may be happening, whether we think we can help and what your options are.
Your care is personalised to you
There is no one-size-fits-all plan. Any techniques, appointment frequency and recommendations will be based on your individual findings, needs and goals.
We regularly review your progress
Your care isn’t decided once and then left unchanged. Regular progress reviews help us understand how you’re responding, recognise what is improving and adapt our recommendations when appropriate.
We’ll be honest if we aren’t the right place for you
If we don’t believe chiropractic care is appropriate for you, we’ll tell you. Where appropriate, we’ll also help point you towards a more suitable next step.
You’ll be listened to, shown what we’ve found and involved in every decision about your care.
Will I need X-rays?
Maybe, but not everyone needs them.
We’ll only recommend X-rays if your chiropractor believes they would genuinely help us understand what is happening and make the right recommendations for you.
- Why might X-rays be recommended?
Sometimes an examination can’t give us the complete picture. When clinically appropriate, X-rays can help both you and your chiropractor see important structural information that cannot be assessed from the outside.
Many clients find it fascinating to see their own images and appreciate having a clearer visual explanation of what their chiropractor is looking at.
We’ll consider the X-rays alongside your health history, symptoms and examination findings to build a more complete picture and make informed recommendations without relying on guesswork.
Not everyone needs X-rays, and not every problem can be seen on one. If we believe they would be genuinely helpful for you, we’ll explain why before going ahead.
- Are X-rays safe?
X-rays use a small amount of radiation, so we never take them unnecessarily. Your chiropractor will explain why they’re being recommended and give you the opportunity to ask any questions before you decide.
If you’re pregnant, think you might be pregnant or have any concerns about X-rays, please tell us. We’ll talk everything through with you and make sure the appropriate steps are taken.
- When will I see the results?
Your chiropractor will carefully review your X-rays alongside your health history, examination and other assessment findings between your two visits.
At your Report of Findings, we’ll show you the relevant images, explain what we can see in straightforward language and answer your questions.
- Do X-rays cost extra?
Yes. If X-rays are clinically indicated, there is an additional charge. We’ll explain the cost clearly and ask for your consent before taking them, there won’t be any surprise charges.
If X-rays would be helpful, we’ll explain why and If you don’t need them, we won’t take them.
How long are the appointments?
Your first two visits are longer because we want to give you the time and attention needed to understand what is happening properly.
Your First Visit: 30-45 minutes
This gives us time to listen to what has been happening, understand how it is affecting you and complete the relevant assessments without making you feel rushed.
If X-rays are clinically indicated, we’ll take these during the appointment too.
Your Second Visit: approximately 30 minutes
At your Report of Findings, your chiropractor will show you what they found, explain what it means and answer your questions.
If we believe we can help, we’ll also talk you through our recommendations and the costs involved, so you have everything you need to decide what feels right for you.
Ongoing appointments: approximately 15-20 minutes
If you decide you want to begin care, ongoing visits are usually shorter and designed to fit more easily around everyday life.
Appointment times may vary slightly depending on what you need, but we’ll always let you know what to expect.
This ensures we have enough time to care for you properly, without taking over your day.
Your progress reviews: approximately 15-20 minutes
Throughout your care, we’ll arrange regular progress reviews to see how you’re responding and whether anything needs to change.
We’ll revisit relevant assessments, talk about what you’ve noticed and compare your progress with where you started. Your chiropractor can then explain what is improving, what may still need attention and whether your recommendations should be adapted.
Your care isn’t set once and forgotten, it is regularly reviewed and personalised as you progress.
What if we don’t believe chiropractic care is right for you?
We’ll tell you honestly.
Your assessment isn’t about finding a reason to sell you care. It’s about understanding what is happening and deciding whether chiropractic is an appropriate option for you.
If we don’t believe we’re the right people to help, we’ll explain why. Where appropriate, we’ll also help point you towards another healthcare professional or a more suitable next step.
If we’re unsure or believe further investigation is needed before making a recommendation, we’ll tell you that too.
Our priority is helping you make the right decision for your health, even when that decision isn’t to begin care with us.

Before You Arrive
A few simple things to help your first visit feel easy and straightforward.
What should I wear?
What you wear is completely up to you, choose whatever helps you feel comfortable.
One thing to keep in mind is that, if X-rays are clinically needed, metal on your clothing can affect the images. This includes jean zips, underwired bras, buckles and metal fastenings.
If any clothing or jewellery needs to be removed for an X-ray, we’ll offer you a gown to change into. We’ll explain why this is needed, give you privacy and only continue when you feel comfortable and happy to proceed.
You don’t need to dress specifically for your appointment, but clothing with fewer metal fastenings may make things a little simpler if X-rays are required.
What should I bring?
You don’t need to bring anything special, but any relevant health information can help us understand the complete picture.
If you have them, please bring:
- Previous X-rays, scans or imaging reports
- Relevant medical letters or test results
- A list of any medication you currently take
- Details of previous injuries, diagnoses or treatment
- Any questions you would like to ask your chiropractor
If we’ve sent you new-client forms, completing them before you arrive will give your chiropractor more time to review your history and focus on you during the appointment.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any of these things. Come as you are, and we’ll guide you through everything we need.
When should I arrive?
Please aim to arrive around five minutes before your appointment.
This gives you time to check in, settle into the clinic and begin your appointment without feeling rushed.
If you haven’t completed your new-client forms beforehand, please arrive around 10 minutes early so you have enough time to complete them comfortably.
If you’re running late, please call us on 01202 684859 as soon as you can. Your chiropractor needs enough time to complete your assessment thoroughly, so depending on how late you arrive, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, and we actively encourage it, particularly for your Report of Findings.
We’ll give you a lot of useful information about what we found, what it may mean and the options available to you. Having a partner, family member or friend there can help you remember details, ask questions you may not have thought of and talk everything through afterwards.
They’re welcome to join the conversation with your chiropractor if you’re comfortable with that. For certain parts of the assessment or if X-rays are required, we may ask them to wait outside the room, but we’ll always explain this first.
An extra pair of ears can be incredibly helpful, so please feel free to bring someone you trust.
Where can I park?
Free parking is available on site at Life Balance Chiropractic.
Additional parking is available in the Sainsbury’s car park directly behind the clinic. Please check the signs for any current parking restrictions or time limits.
You’ll find us at 53 Lagland Street, Poole, Dorset, BH15 1QD, next to Harbour Church
If it’s your first visit, allow a few extra minutes to park and find the entrance. If you have any trouble finding us, call 01202 684859 and our team will be happy to guide you.
What if I need to change my appointment?
We understand that plans can change.
Please call us on 01202 684859 as soon as you know you can’t attend, and our team will help you find another suitable appointment.
Giving us as much notice as possible allows us to offer the appointment to someone else and helps you avoid any late-cancellation charges that may apply to your booking. If you’re unsure about the cancellation policy, just ask our team when you book.
Feel Heard. Get Clear. Know What Comes Next.
Because the right care starts with understanding you.
