The Reality of Living in the Back Pain ‘loop’
Most people with back pain have gone through what we call, “the loop.”
This is the constant research, action, failure cycle that stays stuck on repeat as you work your way through:

Pain relief patches

Specialist advice

Heat or ice

OTC painkillers

Sports therapy

Physical therapy

GP referral

Sports massage therapy

Manual therapies

Manual therapies
At times, the list can seem endless
And this doesn’t even include the long hours spent scouring the internet for support, help groups, or blogs, searching desperately for a solution that just works.

What We Treat
But the Truth About Back Pain is…
The most worrying aspect of “the loop”, is the toll it takes on our bodies, physically, mentally, and chemically.
Repeated Physical Stress can increase the risk of further damage.
Repeated Mental Stress from our thoughts can lower our immune system.
Repeated Chemical Stress from our medications can cause dangerous inflammation.
This is why ending this cycle sooner rather than later provides the optimal chance for healing.

You Don’t Have to Know What’s Wrong to Get Help
There are times when multiple issues and symptoms coincide or overlap.
For example:
Some back pain is actually a condition known as Sciatica, and some back pain can be caused by underlying issues in the spine where the holes where the nerves exit the spine can become compressed and reduced. This is known as lateral stenosis and can make walking any distance more difficult over time and make your legs feel like either cramping, heavier or like their lead weights you can’t take off.
We are not expecting you to know exactly what is wrong.
So you can get back to enjoying the things you love, faster.

I went to Life Balance with lower back pain and tightness in this area. After several months of chiropractic treatment the pain has gone, and my flexibility has increased. The team were fantastic, friendly, easy to talk to, always happy to answer any questions and arrange appointments around my busy work and personal schedule. Most importantly, im delighted with the results, and how I feel now, that have enabled me to continue my sporting interests. Thank you Life Balance!Posted on Google![]()

I’ve been treated for 10 months now and I could not speak more highly of the wonderful clinical team as well as the smiley faces on the front. I have seen significant neurological changes from issues that I have had long term. My recovery, mobility and strength has also all increased as a result of the treatment. Health should always be the priority and this team have transformed mine. Get yourself booked in!!Posted on Google![]()

Since having my daughter, my hips had never felt quite right. I’d also developed a sharp pain around my left shoulder blade and a stiff neck, which was probably not helped by constantly carrying and picking up my very clingy toddler! It had started to affect more than I realised. Housework was uncomfortable, looking after the children felt harder, and being in pain was beginning to affect my mood. I’d even started avoiding certain everyday movements because I was worried I might hurt myself. Someone recommended Life Balance Chiropractic and spoke so highly of the team that I decided to give them a try. I travel from West Parley for my appointments, and it has genuinely been worth the journey. From the beginning, I was really impressed by the new client process. I felt properly listened to, rather than rushed through an appointment, and everything felt personal, smooth and thorough. Seeing my X-rays was particularly helpful because it gave me a much clearer understanding of what was going on. The findings were explained in a way that made sense, and I could finally see why certain things might have been contributing to the way I felt. I started noticing a difference after my first two sessions. Before coming to Life Balance, I would wake up several times during the night in pain and assume I must have slept awkwardly. Recently, I slept through the entire night for the first time in ages. That might sound like a small thing, but when you have young children, waking up with more energy and less pain makes a huge difference. I’m no longer in pain while looking after the house and the children, and picking up my toddler feels so much easier. Harrison is an amazing and incredibly precise chiropractor. Chris has also been brilliant, particularly when working on my hips. He is extremely thorough and pays attention to how my whole body is responding, including muscles and areas I would never have thought were connected. There have been areas that felt incredibly tense before an adjustment and noticeably more relaxed afterwards. I’ve really appreciated that they don’t just focus on the one place that hurts. They look at the bigger picture. The biggest change is that I feel much more confident in my body again. I’m no longer avoiding normal, everyday things because I’m frightened I’ll hurt myself. Being in less pain and sleeping better has made family life feel much easier and more manageable. Everyone at Life Balance is warm, welcoming and genuinely personal. The team always greets me by name, and you never feel like you’re simply the next appointment in the diary. You feel properly cared for. I would absolutely recommend Life Balance Chiropractic in Poole, especially to other mums who haven’t felt quite right since giving birth. For me, making the journey is a complete no-brainer.Posted on Google![]()

I have been going to life balance Chiro now for 9 weeks. All the staff are very professional and really friendly. From my first appointment dr Chris and the team have been working on my back issues and I’m feeling the benefits. Things are finally moving in the right direction and I appreciate this will take time but with their continued treatment I’m very positive of the outcome. Thank you allPosted on Google![]()

I have seen an amazing difference in just a few weeks, I have struggled from a young age with my joints. My jaw was cracking every time I ate and was getting painful, with the help of Chiro I can now eat without pain and very few cracks. I am able to go on long walks without my knees and hips hurting or cracking. Hope is very lovely and will answer all my questions and reassure me of any concerns I have.Posted on Google![]()

I attended life balance for a free spinal health check up, as I was suffering with back and neck pain on a daily basis, mainly due to my job but past trauma to my neck has contributed over the years. I had a thorough assessment, X-ray’s and a past history account and had a future plan put in place. I started by having two sessions a week for the first two months and had seen a noticeable difference within a few weeks, hardly any headaches, no migraines , barely any pain at the end of a busy working week and also my posture is a lot better then before. I am now having treatment once a week and then spreading out to every couple of weeks in the near future. I was very anxious to start off with due to the sensitivity/pain in my neck area but with reassurance and patience from my chiropractor Chris, I feel I have made massive improvements, not just in my work life but in my home life and also with my energy levels too. Life balance is a calm and friendly place to attend and I would highly recommend them to anyone I know suffering with body pain/problems. So pleased with my progress.Posted on Google![]()

BACK PAIN FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions About Back Pain In Poole
If you are dealing with back pain, lower back pain, one-sided pain or stiffness, these FAQs answer the common questions people ask before booking an appointment for back pain in Poole.
What are the common causes of back pain?
Back pain can come from many different things.
Sometimes it starts after something obvious, like lifting, bending, slipping or exercising. Other times, it builds slowly from everyday habits and stress.
Common causes can include:
- sitting for long periods
- lifting or bending awkwardly
- stress and muscle tension
- poor sleep or posture
- previous injuries
- sciatica or irritated discs
- reduced movement in the spine or pelvis
For many people, the small movement that “sets it off” is not the whole cause. It is often the final straw after the back has been under strain for a while.
At Life Balance Chiropractic in Poole, we assess how your spine, joints, muscles and nervous system are working so we can help you understand what may be contributing.
Why does my back pain keep coming back?
Back pain often feels like it comes out of nowhere.
You might feel fine for a while, then one small thing sets it off again, like bending down, lifting something, sitting too long, sleeping awkwardly or feeling stressed.
When that happens, the small movement is often the trigger, not the whole cause.
It may be a sign your back has been under strain for longer than you realised. That is why an assessment can help you understand why the same pattern keeps returning.
At Life Balance Chiropractic, we see pain as a signal — not the root problem.
How can you tell if back pain is serious?
Most back pain is not dangerous, but there are a few symptoms you should never ignore.
Seek urgent medical advice if your back pain comes with:
- loss of bladder or bowel control
- numbness around the groin or saddle area
- severe or worsening leg weakness
- fever
- unexplained weight loss
- major trauma or injury
- pain that is severe and getting worse
These symptoms are not common, but they matter.
If you are unsure, it is always safer to get checked. At Life Balance Chiropractic in Poole, we will always guide you towards medical support if your symptoms need it.
What are the red flags for back pain?
Red flags are symptoms that may mean your back pain needs medical attention.
They include things like bladder or bowel changes, numbness around the saddle area, unexplained weight loss, fever, major trauma, severe night pain, or weakness in the legs that is getting worse.
Most people with back pain do not have these symptoms.
But if something feels unusual, severe or worrying, do not wait it out. Speak to a medical professional first so you know you are taking the safest next step.
Can stress cause back pain?
Yes, stress can play a part in back pain.
When you are under stress, your body can hold more tension. Your breathing may change, your sleep may suffer, and your nervous system can become more sensitive.
That can make your back feel:
- tighter
- more reactive
- easier to irritate
- slower to settle after a flare-up
This does not mean the pain is “just in your head”. It means your body may be carrying more load than it can comfortably adapt to.
At Life Balance Chiropractic, we look at how your body is adapting to stress, not just where the pain is showing up.
Why do I have pain on one side of my back?
One-sided back pain can happen when one area is taking more strain than the other.
You may notice it when standing up, bending, walking, turning in bed, sitting for a long time or carrying things on one side.
It can feel sharp, tight, achy or like your back is “catching”.
The important thing is not just where the pain is, but why that side is struggling. At Life Balance Chiropractic in Poole, we assess how your spine, pelvis, hips, muscles and nervous system are working together.
Are stretches good for back pain?
Stretches can help some people with back pain, especially if the back feels stiff or tight.
But they are not always the full answer.
If stretching makes the pain worse, only helps for a short time, or the same pain keeps coming back, your body may need more than a few exercises.
A good rule is: gentle movement should feel helpful, not forced.
At Life Balance Chiropractic, we can assess what your back needs and give advice that fits your body, symptoms and goals.
When should I book an assessment for back pain?
You may want to book an assessment when back pain starts affecting normal life.
That could mean:
- it keeps coming back
- it affects your sleep
- it limits movement
- it makes work harder
- it stops you exercising
- it spreads into your hip, buttock or leg
- you feel worried about moving normally
You do not need to wait until the pain is unbearable.
If your back pain is changing how you live, move or feel, it is worth getting it checked.
What happens at my first back pain appointment?
Your first appointment is about understanding your back pain properly.
We will talk through what you are feeling, when it started, what makes it better or worse, your health history, your lifestyle, your work and what you want to get back to.
You do not need to know what is wrong before you come in.
That is what the assessment is for.
At Life Balance Chiropractic, we explain what we find clearly so you can understand what may be contributing and what your next steps could be.
Where can I find back pain treatment in Poole?
Life Balance Chiropractic provides back pain treatment in Poole for people dealing with stiffness, recurring flare-ups, one-sided pain and restricted movement.
We start with a detailed consultation and assessment, so we can understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
If chiropractic care is suitable, we will explain your options and create a personalised plan around your needs.
If back pain is affecting your sleep, work, movement or daily life, booking an assessment can help you take the next step.
