Tennis Elbow

Sports

What Is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis Elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, results from repetitive motion, overuse, or injury of the muscles in the forearm.

These muscles and tendons become sore, inflamed, and swell, causing significant pain around the outside of the elbow. In more severe cases the tendons can tear, causing recovery times to range upwards of 2 years or more.

Conditions

What Are The Common Symptoms?

Often, Tennis Elbow can be confused with tendonitis. Due to overlapping symptoms, getting a professional assessment is the only way to know for sure.

Common symptoms of Tennis Elbow include:

  • Localised pain on the outside of the elbow
  • Pain in the forearm when bending or lifting the arm
  • An ache or pain while rotating the wrist
  • Tingling or weakness in the hand or arm

What Are The Risks If Left Untreated?

Due to the time it takes to recover fully, a treatment plan is highly advised to be implemented as soon as possible to prevent setbacks and further injury.

If left untreated, it is more likely the pain will become chronic and can lead to nerve damage in the forearm.

How Is It Treated?

While medication can help reduce pain, it’s not recommended to take painkillers consistently for such a long period.

Because of this, the best form of treatment is to properly realign the elbow joints for improved functionality and increased mobility.

The extremity and chiropractic adjustments we perform at Life Balance Chiropractic help to speed up healing and reduce swelling by improving blood flow to the area and allowing the nerves to regain healthy functionality and glide.

This provides immediate relief and strengthens, releases and activites your muscles to reduce the risk of re-injury.
